Being a Vegetarian since birth, I’ve developed a special kind of love and respect for animals. My first dwarf hamster was given to me and my brother by my aunt as a present when I was just nine years old.  In the eleven years since then, my first experience with a Syrian hamster was when he was abandoned by someone. Since that fateful day, I have fallen in love with Syrian hamsters.

Syrian hamsters are of a larger size as compared to dwarf hamsters. They are easier to handle as compared to the all-too-often, over hyper and enthusiastic dwarves. Local Syrian hamsters are usually of poorer quality than their dwarf counterparts as they do not receive as much attention. Out of my love for them, I developed a passion to improve their quality, size, built, temperament, facial features and coat. This has also allowed me to share quality Syrian hamsters with anyone who loves them like I do.

To understand what bring out the best in my Syrian hamsters, research has been done on their basic genetics to understand what kind of pairing can be made, and those that need to be avoided. In most people’s perception, breeders are those who breed animals for profit; however there are also those that respect the many aspects of breeding and its ethics. Proceeds made from the rehoming of these quality hamsters are the finance needed to continue the work I do, providing Syrian hamsters with the best of care, diet and housing possible. It also provides for this site in which valuable information about these wonderful friends can be found.

With proper research and ethics, breeding can be very satisfying. However, I would not encourage anyone who these like these pets to start pairing them without extensive research and planning. Basics such as genetic disposition, accommodations and new homes should be taken into consideration all above others before one should start. Technically, breeding Syrian hamsters are easy. However, if one does care about their quality and lifestyle, there are much more work that needs to be done as compared to what most retail pet shops would like you to believe.

I am sure that we all have our own preferred way of handling and taming our pets, but as long as we handle them with love and proper care, a bond of trust can be forged between us and our little pets.
