Raising Potato Ep 1 – Hello Everybunny!

OLA~!

My name is Sher and i’m a proud new mama of my now 16 weeks old Holland Lop Eared Bunny, Potato.
In the coming weeks, i will share with you on how Potato is growing up and what i do when i encounter problems while raising him.

Here is little Potato at 8 weeks old.

For this episode, i will share on what i did/bought to prepare for the lil one’s arrival!
I live in a 4-room HDB flat and everyone knows how small the new flats are, so we had to make full use of the space that we have. We chose a spot right next to the TV console to place Potato’s cage as 1) its not warm nor under direct sunlight and 2) its the furthest away from the bedrooms.

Things i bought:

– Wild Sanko C31 Easy Home
– Breeder Celect Cat Litter
– Marukan Soft Rubber Brush
– Marukan Soft Slicker Brush
– Food Bowl
– Steel ball for hay
– Grooming Powder
– Grooming Conditioner
– Oxbow Vitamin C tablets
– Oxbow Papaya Tablets
– Ferplast Water Bottle
– Pee stain remover/deodorizer
– Wild Sanko Large Litter Pan (with wire mesh)
– Assorted chewing toys
– Hay & Pellets from breeder
– Oxbow Alfalfa Hay
– Pet Carrier
– Cooling pad
– Real wood logs (Large)

I'm still using about 70% of the items out of the above list. I will share why i don't use the other 30% anymore in the future posts.

18th March 2013 6pm – The day we went to collect little Potato!
Me and hubby were soooo excited to bring our new family member home! He has already grown quite abit since we last saw him 2 weeks ago.

Here's a picture of me + Potato before we went home!

Upon reaching home, we introduced Potato into his spanking new habitat and it didn’t take long before he started munching on his hay.

I also think this is the day where we started overusing the phrase “Oh so cuuuuttteee!”! Well, we couldn’t help it… He kept giving us this look:

Hello :)

Hello~

Tell me how you can resist saying those three words! 😀

We had lots of fun observing Potato’s every little movement/action as its all very new to us. He has also settled in quite well and was eating, drinking, pooping and sleeping normally. The breeder advised us to not let him out for 3 days so that he can get accustomed to his new habitat and environment. The main concern was that he needs time to be litter trained. Letting him out too soon will kind of make him ‘forget’ his good habits.
One thing to note: All bunnies have different character and learning pace. Some learn to be litter trained within a week while others may take months. We as bunny owners must practice lots and lots of patience when litter training them. Just DON’T GIVE UP!

I’ll be touching on my Potato-triggered-allergy (gasps!!) problems and how i deal with them in Ep 2 so stay tuned!

Parting shot!
